What is Microsuction?

Microsuction is a method used by healthcare professionals, to remove excess earwax (cerumen) from the ear canal. It involves using a specialised instrument called a microscope and a suction device to gently and safely remove earwax under direct visualisation.

What are the benefits of ear wax removal?

  1. Improved hearing: Excessive earwax build-up can block the ear canal, leading to temporary hearing loss or a sensation of muffled hearing. Removing the excess earwax can help restore normal hearing function.

  2. Relief from discomfort: Earwax build-up can cause symptoms such as earache, a feeling of fullness or pressure in the ear, or tinnitus (ringing in the ear). Removing the earwax can alleviate these discomforts and improve overall ear health.

  3. Prevention of complications: Impacted earwax can increase the risk of complications such as ear infections, ear canal irritation, or eardrum damage. By removing the excess earwax, the risk of these complications is reduced.

  4. Clearer communication: Improved hearing and reduced discomfort resulting from earwax removal can enhance communication abilities, making it easier to engage in conversations and participate in daily activities.

  5. Better fitting of hearing aids or earplugs: For individuals who use hearing aids or earplugs, excessive earwax can interfere with the proper fit and function of these devices. Removing the earwax allows for a better fit and improved effectiveness of hearing aids or earplugs.
